Secondary entries

The secondary entry database represents a unique resource for the study of manuscripts. In this database, all reader and owner entries, notations concerning the manuscript's transmission or private notes are collected and analysed in detail. At the present time data from the collections “Wetzstein I and II” and “Sprenger” are continuously recorded in collaboration with the Refaiya-Project of the Leipzig University.

Furthermore, all information being important for the history and transmission of a manuscript such as places, dates, pricemarks and biographical details of persons mentioned in the entry can be separately recorded and queried. All these details are linked with the datasets of the corresponding manuscripts.

This database allows the manuscript to be assigned to a specific local, chronological and material context, attaching the manuscript social-historical value beyond the information contained in its literary text.
